Our Experience Planning A Wedding Reception

Friday, August 10th, 2007

When my wife and I got married, we decided that we wanted to have a large wedding, not so much for the wedding itself, but for the reception afterward. We wanted to throw an unforgettable party after our wedding and make sure that everyone we loved would have a great time. However planning a wedding reception is not very easy, and also not very cheap. We put our heads together to make it special, but still keep it on a budget.

We decided we would have our reception in one of the party rooms at a local hotel. This particular hotel had a great wedding reception package that allowed for you to have a certain number of people for one price. The price included decorations, cups, napkins, a dance floor, and all of the tables and chairs to fill the room. You might think that some of these things would be standard, but you will be surprised to find out that things like napkins and cups are usually charged separately from the rest of a package. Then we decided to get two kegs, some champagne punch, and some finger foods for the guests to munch on.

Now that all of the plans for the wedding reception had been set, we needed to decide on what other kinds of decorations we wanted. My wife and I created centerpieces for all of the tables out of fish bowls, river rocks, candles, and a streamer. We put some river rocks in the fish bowl, set the candle in the middle of the fish bowl, and then wrapped the streamer around the bottom of the fish bowl. Another common thing for a wedding reception is to have small gifts for all of the guests. Both my wife and I have quite a few friends that drink beer, so we decided to get everyone koozies with our names and wedding date on them, so that everyone could remember that night. We got pink for all of the women, and camouflage for all of the men. When the wedding reception finally arrived we had a blast, and everyone thought that the koozies were the best gift that they had ever received at a wedding reception.
